Difference between hand-tied wefts and machine wefts

As previously stated Hair2inspire will be using our blog as a medium to answer our customers frequently asked questions.

We get a lot of enquiries about our hair extension products but one of the most frequently asked questions is "what is the difference between hand-tied wefts and machine-tied wefts?" This question is very popular; we have lost count of the number of customers that has asked us this, this is mainly due to the fact that  hair extensions with hand-tied wefts are sold at a premium price. What puzzles so many people is why they cost so much and what the benefits are.

First, let us describe the process to you:

A hand-tied weft is essentially a seam that holds all of the base ends of the hair together and is manually woven into the weave by a human and custom attention is given to each weave whereas a machine weft is hair that is fed into a machine and weaved tightly into the seam, this happens in a manner similar to that of the sewing machine.
Machine and hand-tied wefts

So what are the benefits of a hand-tied weft you ask?
Firstly, the hand-tied weft is usually significantly slimmer than the standard machine-tied weft and the slimmer the weft the easier it is to hide and less-likely for someone to detect if they touch your head. Hair that is machine-wefted tends to be bulkier because the weave itself needs to be hefty so the machine can get a good enough hold of the hair. This is an important factor because no-one wants anyone to see or feel their weave; it is the horrid tell sign of hair extensions.

Secondly, another great benefit of hand-tied hair extensions is that the hair on a hand-tied weft is much more securely attached to the weft. This means that each strand of hair will remain attached to the weft much longer than their counterparts which are machine-sewn. Hair from hand-tied wefts does not shred because of this and therefore the hair extensions last longer. They don't thin out like machine-wefted hair extensions therefore have a much longer life span.

The Limitations of hand-tied wefts are that it is recommended that the weft is not cut; you have to use the whole piece without cutting it. If the weft exceeds the needed length of the targeted track, then merely fold over the end and double-up the weft to the length that is needed. If the hand-tied weft gets cut, the weft will unravel. To save the hair you will have to try and seal the cut weft with some sort of clear liquid super glue or try and create a new knot which is a very intricate process and usually a step that requires the skill of an expert.

Our hand-tied wefts come in strips which are not usually more than in 10-inch widths (from one end of the weft to the other end), so there is not usually a need to double up, but if you do have to do so the end result is still a fairly flat finish.

Another limitation of hand-tied wefts are that due to the slimness of the weft, you can only really sew in the tracks, bonding the glue to the slim weft without getting any on the hair is quite a challenge and can be quite messy. Despite these limitations we highly recommend hand-tied wefts, our suppliers are specialists in hand-tying and knotting and have taken the craft to a whole new level. Anyone who sees our beautifully made wefts agree that they are truly an art form. Our wefts are strong, secure, and don't shed or become hard and sticky.

Hand-tied Peruvian wefts
Ok, you ask "  If handwefts are so great, why are machine wefts so popular and the best seller on the market?". Machine wefts are more sturdy and can be cut without un raveling and so is very popular with stylists who are not skilled to deal with hand wefts, also the ability to cut the weft allows for more flexibility with the hair style. The negative side to machine wefts usually is the shredding of the hair, however our suppliers re-inforce the weft and so the shredding of our hair is kept to a bare minimum meaning that the lifespan of the hair is longer. Both our machine-wefted and hand-wefted hair can be re-used over and over again.

Diva Hair Competition: Facebook Fanpage:Hair2inspire

Hair2Inspire have launched a Diva Hair Competition. To enter you need to submit a photo to competitions@hair2inspire.com by 6pm on the 18th September 2011.
You may wonder what we mean by Diva Hair as the word diva can be interpreted in many different ways.  The word is originally an Italian word meaning a famous female opera singer, it is closely related to the word "prima donna". The word entered the English language in the late 19th century and today the word is used to describe someone who behaves as a goddess or queen; it is used disparingly to describe someone who acts overly entitled. In Beyonces” song “Diva”, she says “a Diva is a female version of a hustler”. We at H2I believe that a Diva is someone who doesn’t follow rules; she doesn’t dress in a certain way or wear her hair in one way.  A Diva is about defining what you want to be, how you want to be perceived and then going for it. A Diva inspires others, be it to look good, to work harder, to have more confidence, the list goes on and on.  So a Diva hair style has no limitations, no boundries, it is about your style, whether it is short, long, natural, extensions, coloured, bleached etc etc etc. So Ladies get snapping because the competition is open to everyone.
This collection of divas hairstyles should give you inspiration:

The Competition will be run on our facebook fanpage, all pictures entered into the competition will be posted in an album on our facebook page called Diva Hair.  From 9am GMT on the 19th September the album will be open for votes, fans of Hair2inspire will be asked to “Like” the picture they like the most, the picture with the most "likes" will by 9pm GMT on 30th September 2011 will win a full head of human hair extensions, the runner up will receive a goody bag.
Good Luck to everyone who enters.

Virgin Indian Remy hair

Hair2inspire specialise in natural, virgin, remy, full cuticle, 100% real human hair.

What is Remy hair?
Remy hair means that all the hair cuticles are facing the same way. When human hair is collected from donors, the hair is cut from the head very carefully and bundled and tied so that all the hair lays in the same direction. Unfortunately, some hair extensions are manufactured from hair that is collected from hair salon floors or from women that collect hair from their brushes and then sell to suppliers. Sadly, in some countries, collecting hair and selling it is one of the ways that people earn money. However, hair extensions made from this hair will mean that the hair is facing in different directions and is called non remy hair. If you've ever encountered non remy hair you'll know that it is a disaster using them for hair extensions, especially permanent extensions. Even with the best hair care products and continuous maintenance, the hair will quickly become unmanageable and turn into a birds nest. Ensure that you buy remy hair every time to avoid headaches.

What is Virgin Hair?

Refers to hair that is completely unprocessed, and intact. To qualify as virgin hair, it must meet rigorous standards including: not been permed, dyed, colored, bleached, chemically processed in any way.
The harvesting process for virgin hair is more time consuming and meticulous, which adds to the premium value of virgin hair.

Indian Hair
The most common choice of hair on the market is Indian virgin hair. Indian virgin hair is so popular because it has a texture and colour that can easily be matched to people of different ethnic backgrounds, it also looks great without breaking the bank. It is at the cheaper end of the virgin hair market because it much more easier to obtain and is not quite as thick in density as the other hair types but it does cost more than the standard human hair extensions available at your local beauty supply store. This is because it lasts longer, looks better, and is easier to reuse. Virgin Indian human hair has a smooth, flat cuticle that guarantees silky, tangle-free tresses.

The advantage of Indian hair in the manufacture of hair extensions is that the structural properties of Indian hair, particularly the cortical cells within the cuticle, are extremely strong and as such, Indian hair can be extensively coloured without becoming brittle or dry.

With limitless styling options; the Indian hair of which they are made can be :
    • coloured,
    • curled
    • straightened using tongs and ceramic straighteners.
These hair extensions look and feel great, remaining soft and tangle free. The straight hair is normally straight and turns slightly wavy when it is wet.

The Natural curly hair comes in different curly textures. Mainly it comes in deep curls, medium curls and deep wave. The hair can be made straight using the iron straightening method and due to its natural curls it normally bounces back once it is wet.

Our suppliers use superior wefting on our Indian hair extensions range to ensure consistent fullness of the hair extensions and to keep shredding to a minimum.

We have recently introduced an exclusive range of non-virgin remy hair, hair that has been partially chemically treated in some way either by colouring or bleaching for our european clients in colours:

We also offer a customized service, whereby you can order extensions customised to your requirements so you can choose any length (8”-32”), any colour(s) and any texture, this order takes between 7-10 days.

Model is wearing 18" Remy Indian hair extensions, colour 613
In our virgin Indian hair range we stock:
    • Machine weft hair
    • Hand wefted
    • Clip-on hair
    • Pre-bonded hair
    • Stick tip
We sell our hair in 100g bundles, what you purchase really depends on the look you are going for. For partial weaves you will typically need aprox 100g. For the average full head weave you will need at least 200g. Longer and fuller styles typically require more hair. If you require a fuller look, or are working with hair 22 inches or longer, then you should consider purchasing 300g or more.

For the month of August we are offering a 20% discount on our Virgin human hair, below are the prices of our machine wefted virgin indian hair:

    The Beauty of Hair Extensions

What is the beauty of hair extensions you may ask? Well for a start, hair extensions are the easiest and most popular method of adding length, colour, density and style to your existing hair.  Hair extensions can change your appearance in an instant and enable an individual to rock hair that looks natural, healthy, and stylish. Today, more and more women are realising that extensions can be the answer to a myriad of hair woes- from hair that is too thin, to hair that is too short, to hair that is just not the right color, a quality weave can fix it all.

MODEL IS WEARING 18" VIRGIN INDIAN HAIR

While many women love the look and feel of long, luscious locks, they bemoan the high cost of quality hair extensions but why go cheap several times a month when you can invest in high-quality human hair extensions just once?.   The key to having a beautiful head of hair is to use beautiful hair in your weave and as with all things, you will certainly get what you pay for when it comes to hair extensions. If you have already made the decision and commitment to go forward with a weave, it does not make sense to cut corners, especially the important ones like hair quality.Opting for poor quality cheaper hair extensions can be a nightmare as you leave yourself open to so many disasters:

               EXCESSIVE SHREDDING

MATTED HAIR EXTENSIONS AFTER A WASH

    TANGLED HAIR EXTENSIONS

First and foremost, we do not recommend using synthetic hair for your weave because no matter the cost or quality, artificial hair extensions will never combine seamlessly with your natural head of hair and they only look good for a very short space of time and they tend to matt very easily. Secondly be very careful with the vast amount of hair companies that say that they are selling human hair, as  rule of thumb, the cheaper the hair, the lesser the quality and the more likely to be combined with hair from other sources or even synthetic fibres. We have been in the industry long enough to have seen it all, we have even been duped in the past by "so called " human hair suppliers from abroad but we have learnt some big lessons. We have travelled to numerous destinations to source the hair, invested money to carry out extensive research on the hair and most importantly tried and tested it for ourselves. We believe that the only way to get a top quality hair weave is to use hair extensions that are made with real human hair because nothing beats the versatility of human hair extensions.  Real quality human hair can be straightened with a flat iron, curled with heat, chemically treated to perm or bleached and dyed. Once you start considering your different real hair options, remember that better quality hair will always cost more because it is not as readily available. Hair that has always been well cared for and not chemically treated is scarce, and therefore more costly than damaged or synthetic hair extensions, but it is absolutely worth it when it comes to making your new and improved hair as perfect as possible.  Each month we will do a segment on the different types of real human hair available on the market e.g Indian, Brazilian, Peruvian etc, the different forms the hair is available in e.g machine weft, hand weft, skin weft and the different application methods. We want to prove to you that jaw dropping beautiful hair is not just for a-list celebrities anymore, any woman can now enjoy the benefits of a beautifully weaved hairstyle. If you would like to discuss our range of hairextensions please call 07590 622 501, add pin 21CE19E6 or email info@hair2inspire.com. We will also be displaying our range at the London Designer Forum on 31st July 2011.
